Super Bowl Appetizers Off The Big Green Egg

Whether you're a hardcore sports fan or just enjoy watching the Super Bowl for the commercials, there's no denying that even the most casual fan will be thinking about what worthy appetizer they'll be bringing to the Super Bowl party. Here are some legendary ideas to try on your Big Green Egg to impress your friends and family this Sunday.

Smoked Chicken Wings

Smoked chicken wings are a great appetizer to serve at your next party. They're easy to make, and they taste great! You'll want at least 1 pound per person; more if they're hungry! You can easily make them on your Big Green Egg by following these steps:

  • Preheat your Big Green Egg to 250 degrees F.

  • Place chicken wings in a large bowl or pan. Add 1/2 cup of melted butter and your favorite Meat Church Rub (try Meat Church VooDoo) stir well until all wings are coated evenly.

  • When ready to cook, set up the Big Green Egg to cook indirect and place wings on the grates. Smoke the wings until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. Remove from heat and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Smoked Sausage Queso Dip

If there was ever a dish worthy of being called "classic," nachos would definitely qualify! They're delicious any time of year but especially good when paired with smoked queso dip off the Big Green Egg on Super Bowl Sunday!

  • Begin by preheating the Big Green Egg to 350 degrees.

  • Add 2 cups of diced onions and 3 cloves of minced garlic to a large cast iron skillet or heavy duty pan.

  • Add 1 pound of ground pork sausage (hot) and cook all the way through.

  • Add 1 pound Velveeta Queso cheese cubes, 1 cup of milk, two tablespoons of your favorite Meat Church Rub.

  • Stir well until melted together into a smooth consistency. Once everything is melted remove the queso from the grill.

  • Serve with chips and enjoy!

Jalapeño Cheese Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage

  • 1 cup of bread crumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 3 jalapenos, minced (remove seeds for less heat)

  • 1/4 cup chopped green onion tops (optional)

  • 2 cloves garlic finely minced or pressed through garlic press

  • 2 tbsps Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup your favorite Big Green Egg sauce (add after meatballs have cooked)

Preheat Big Green Egg to 350 degrees F using indirect heat method. In large bowl combine all ingredients (except for sauce). Form mixture into golf ball sized balls. Line a cast iron that will fit on your grill with aluminum foil and place the meatballs through the pan. Smoke the meatballs until they're to temperature. Next pour half bottle barbecue sauce over top. Smoke until the sauce has nicely caramelized the outside of the meatballs. Enjoy!
